Wayne Peterson For Leeds Mayor

I ask every eligible resident of Leeds to vote, so that the outcome of this November’s election reflects the wishes of the entire Town.

I served as Leeds Mayor from 2014-2021.  During my second four-year term, grant-funded work began on updating the Town’s General Plan.  That work was completed, and a revised Plan was approved by the new Mayor and Council.  Two of the Goals are “anticipate and encourage managed and planned growth,” and “maintain the small-town rural feel of Leeds,”  with one strategy being “require new residential development to be compatible and consistent with the town’s historic land use patterns and/or adjacent developed lot sizes.”  Regrettably, with the establishment of and recommendation for new developer-proposed zoning districts for Leeds since the Plan was adopted, focus on these Goals has been lost.  We need to go back to the Plan Theme, “preserving the town’s rural character and history in all future planning and development activities.”

As  Mayor, I learned much about what was best for Leeds by listening to residents.  I would expand Public Comment at Town meetings back to what it was from 2014-2021.
